This book of poetry retells the biblical story of Cain and Abel from a female perspective, where the brothers are instead the sisters Caina and Mabel. Through this retelling Ojeda explores female sexuality, violence and familial relationships using powerful free verse full of intertextual references and strong ties to the natural world.

The English translation of this book will be published by Coffee House Press in 2025.

Guillermo Arriaga
Winner of the Premio Alfaguara de novela 2020, this book immediately grabbed my attention with its beautiful portrayal of a divided Mexico told from a number of different perspectives, each with their own unique voice.
The author demonstrates his creative aptitude in his use (and creation) of colloquial language specific to the northern regions of Mexico.
